In October, 2026, we completed the shipment of 260 tons of Corten B weathering steel plates to a rolling stock workshop in Australia, for the body panels of a coal wagon fleet.
The plates, 4 mm to 12 mm thick, are press-formed into side walls, floor plates and end doors. Corten B is a common choice for wagon bodies because it handles abrasive coal loading and open-air storage without protective coating, and its corrosion resistance keeps the structure light over a long service life.
Together with the client's engineering team we confirmed the chemical balance per heat, the yield strength at 355 MPa minimum, and the Charpy impact values for the Australian service temperature. Ultrasonic testing to EN 10160 S1/E1 was carried out on the thicker plates, and mill certificates to EN 10204 3.1 accompanied every shipment.

Plates were delivered flat, film-marked on the inner face and stacked with timber dunnage, in three batches matched to the workshop's production slots. The client passed all material on arrival and has already placed a follow-up order for the second half of the fleet.
Welcome to contact us for Corten B and other weathering steel plates for wagons, chutes and hopper applications.
