A588 Grade B Steel Plates for a Bridge Girder Fabricator in the United States

In September, 2026, we completed the shipment of 320 tons of ASTM A588 Grade B weathering steel plates to a bridge girder fabricator in the United States.

The plates, 12 mm to 40 mm thick and up to 3.2 m wide, are used for welded plate girders of a highway overpass project. A588 Grade B was specified by the designer for its atmospheric corrosion resistance, which allows most of the girder to stay uncoated except the splash zones near the bearings.

Before production, we confirmed with the client the chemical composition per heat, the Charpy V-notch impact requirement at low temperature, ultrasonic test level and the flatness tolerance for the girder web plates. Mill certificates according to EN 10204 3.1 were issued for every heat, and the third-party inspector retained by the client witnessed the impact tests at the mill.

All plates were delivered with the mill's original heat number markings, stacked on timber dunnage and shipped in two batches to match the fabrication schedule at the workshop. The client confirmed that the material passed their incoming inspection without a single deviation report.
