Why choose S355K2G2W over S355K2G1W
Why choose S355K2G2W over S355K2G1W
Both grades share the same strength and impact toughness. The difference is phosphorus:
G2W allows higher phosphorus (up to 0.12%) for faster patina formation, ideal for aggressive environments
G1W keeps phosphorus lower (≤0.035%) for improved weldability and consistent toughness in weld-sensitive applications
What about fabrication?
S355K2G2W welds with standard low-hydrogen procedures. It bends and forms with attention to minimum bend radii and grain direction. It cuts with plasma, laser, or oxy-fuel—same as structural steel, with attention to heat-affected zones.
What it doesn't do.
S355K2G2W is not for coastal zones with constant salt spray, persistent immersion in water, or burial in soil. In those conditions, the patina never stabilizes, and corrosion continues like ordinary steel.
